"A solicitor recently contacted me with reference to an unusual enclosure award, which was preventing developers from removing a hedgerow and continuing with expansion of a site. The problem stemmed from numerous objections that had been lodged against the planning application, including a letter that specifically referred to the Enclosure Act, which we were being asked to cover. These factors had already led some other insurers to decline the risk and understandably, the developers and their solicitors were keen to find a solution to the problem.

As with many of the cases Isis underwrites, the fine detail is always crucial. In this particular example, further research was necessary. After carefully studying the recorded objections, I came to the conclusion that none of them posed too great a risk. Armed with this new information, I was happy to underwrite the policy and, with our cover, the developer was able to progress work on the site."
